What sets Siesta apart?
Scientifically Formulated: Harnessing the potential of botanical compounds (terpenes) and scientifically formulated to support your body's natural sleep response, promoting deeper, better quality sleep.
This product goes one step further than conventional essential oils and is based on 20 years of research.
Terpenes are naturally occurring compounds found in plants, especially abundant in certain herbs, fruits, and flowers. They are responsible for giving plants their distinctive aromas and flavours.
Beyond their sensory attributes, terpenes have been recognised for their potential health benefits, thanks to their therapeutic properties. Scientific research suggests that terpenes may offer a variety of health benefits.
Key terpenes in Siesta
Guaiol
Guaiol is a natural sesquiterpenoid found in the essential oils of plants like guaiacum and cypress. Known for its calming and sedative properties, guaiol has been traditionally used to support restful sleep and relaxation. Its soothing effects can help reduce stress and anxiety, which are common culprits of disrupted sleep patterns. Additionally, guaiol’s mild anti-inflammatory properties may further contribute to overall relaxation, easing physical tension that can interfere with sleep. With its natural, plant-based origins, guaiol offers a gentle and effective option for promoting deeper, more restful sleep and improving overall sleep quality.
Citronellol
Citronellol is a naturally occurring terpene found in plants like citronella, lemongrass, and roses, known for its calming and relaxing effects. With its soothing properties, citronellol is often used to support better sleep by reducing stress and anxiety, helping to calm the mind before bedtime. Its gentle sedative effect makes it beneficial for those experiencing difficulty falling or staying asleep. Additionally, citronellol’s anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxing properties can ease physical discomfort, further promoting restful sleep. As a natural, plant-derived compound, citronellol is an excellent option for those seeking gentle, non-invasive support for better sleep quality.
Beta-pinene
Beta-pinene is a naturally occurring terpene found in plants like pine, rosemary, and basil, recognized for its calming and sedative properties. It is particularly beneficial for promoting relaxation and improving sleep quality, as it helps reduce stress and anxiety, which are often barriers to restful sleep. Beta-pinene also has mild anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, which can help alleviate physical discomfort, making it easier to achieve deeper, more restorative rest. Its natural, plant-based origins make beta-pinene an excellent option for those seeking a gentle, non-invasive approach to supporting better sleep and overall relaxation.

FAQs
Why are dosage instructions different for Australia compared to the US?
In Australia, terpenes are not recognised as foods and cannot be taken orally as a general food product. Therefore, they have been classified as non-medical cosmetic products and must be administered topically.
In the US, terpenes are recognised as being part of the everyday diet through traditional foods. They can therefore be classified as dietary supplements under FDA regulations and can be administered orally.
What is the difference between hemp seed oil and hemp oil?
The terms "hemp seed oil" and "hemp oil" are sometimes used interchangeably, but they can refer to different products based on the part of the hemp plant used and the extraction process.
Hemp seed oil is specifically extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. It provides nutritional benefits due to its fatty acid profile and can be a good source of essential nutrients.
Hemp oil may refer to oil extracted from the entire hemp plant, including the leaves, flowers, and stalks. This type of oil may contain cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD), which are compounds found in the hemp plant. The potential benefits of hemp oil with CBD are currently being studied, and some people use it for purposes such as stress relief, pain management, and sleep support.
Currently, in Australia, it is not legal to sell unregistered CBD products over the counter. If you are interested in CBD and how it may help you, try our Terpene Tonics first as a cheaper and easily accessible option.
Will I test positive for THC in a drug test?
Eating hemp seeds has little effect on a person’s THC levels ― and never enough to exceed the levels looked for in federal drug testing programs. So rest assured, hemp seed is safe to eat and you can eat it daily and have no risk of failing a drug test.
The Terpenes used in our Terpene Tonics have all been extracted from common herbs and spices and do not contain THC.

Are terpenes or hemp safe for kids, breastfeeding or pregnancy?
Terpenes are in most fruit and vegetables and are generally recognised as safe. While some terpenes may have potential health benefits, the safety of using terpene products, especially in concentrated forms, on children is not well-studied. Therefore, we do not recommend using the terpenes for children under 12.
Likewise for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Due to lack of data it is safest not to use these products.
Hemp seed is safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women, and for kids from the moment they start eating solids. Hemp seeds are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are crucial for brain development in infants.

As a general precaution, it's always advisable to inform your healthcare provider about any dietary supplements or oils you are considering, especially if you are on prescription medications. Your GP can provide personalized advice based on your health history and specific medication regimen.
Hemp seed oil is a natural blood thinner, so those on blood thinning medication should consult their general practitioner.
